If you've been playing League of Legends on the same old laptop for ages, the latest update might be the breaking point. Riot quietly upped the minimum system requirements, and some older computers can't even start the game anymore, especially with the new DirectX 11 and TPM stuff.

Before you freak out and blame your team or your internet, let's see if your PC is still up to par.
What Actually Changed?
League used to run on practically any device you could turn on. But now, Riot has these minimum requirements:
DirectX 11 feature level 11_0 (Windows)
Metal support (macOS)
64-bit OS
If your system doesn't meet these requirements, you might see:
The play button is greyed out.
VAN 9004 Error (Outdated Windows 10 builds)
Game performance drops or it won't even start.
Riot isn't trying to make things difficult. It's just that the game's graphics, user interface, and anti-cheat system have all been updated.
League of Legends System Requirements for Windows
Category | Minimum (Playable but not ideal) | Recommended (Smooth experience) |
|---|---|---|
CPU | Intel Core i3-530 / AMD A6-3650 | Intel i5-8250 / Ryzen 3 1200 |
GPU | GeForce 400 Series / HD 6570 / Intel HD 4600 | GTX 560 / Radeon HD 6950 / Intel UHD 630 |
RAM | 2GB | 4GB |
Storage | 16GB HDD | 16GB SSD |
OS | Windows 10 Build 19041+ or Windows 11 (TPM required) | Windows 11 |
Resolution Comfort Zone | 1024×768 | 1080p High |
If your computer doesn't support DirectX 11, the game won't start. There's no way around it.
League Requirements for macOS
Category | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
CPU | Intel i5-750 | Intel i5-3300 |
GPU | Any Metal-supported GPU | Radeon HD 6950 or Intel UHD 630 |
RAM | 2GB | 4GB |
Storage | 12GB HDD | 16GB SSD |
OS | macOS 10.15 | macOS 11 |
Important: Native support for M-Series Macs (M1/M2/M3) still doesn’t exist. Rosetta can work but it isn’t officially supported.
Unsupported Platforms
Linux
SteamOS
ChromeOS
Framework gaming tricks
ARM Windows laptops
You might be able to play the game, but Riot won't offer support if something goes wrong.
Will League Run on a Very Old PC?
If your computer is from after 2014, you can probably play, but turn the settings down. Limiting your framerate to 60 FPS might also keep things smooth when things get hectic.

If your PC has under 2GB of RAM, an Intel HD graphics card from before 2012, or doesn't support DX11, then it probably won't work.
Performance Tips if You’re Getting Low FPS
These tweaks give the biggest boost:
Setting | Change To |
|---|---|
Shadows | Off |
Anti-Aliasing | Off |
V-Sync | Off |
Character Quality | Low/Medium |
Effects Quality | Low |
Window Mode | Fullscreen |
Yeah, SSDs really do make a difference. A regular hard drive can add like 15–30 seconds to loading, which is kind of a pain.
Quick FAQ
Does League require Windows 11?
No. But Windows 10 must be updated to Build 19041 or newer.
Can League run on 4GB RAM?
Yes. 2GB also works, but expect FPS drops late-game.
Is a GPU required?
Integrated graphics work fine as long as they support DirectX 11.
